GENRE RESEARCH

Task 1 - Write a short introduction explaining what you're going to do for this post... here's an example:

In this post I am going to undertake research into the genre of my documentary.  The main reason for doing this is to highlight and analyse codes and conventions of documentaries specifically aimed at young people in order to help me produce an effective media product of my own.

The genre of the text as described in my chosen brief is factual and I'll be looking at the conventions of 3 media products that of the same genre.

TASK 2: PRODUCTS
  1. A Dot's Story Of Grime
  2. Jesy Nelson: Odd One Out
  3. Bats, Balls and Bradford Girls

TASK 3
This lesson aided my research because it helped me realise why producers decide to incorporate certain aspects, as shown above, and how this contributes to my enjoyment of the genre. Exploring different types of documentary allowed me to figure out the tone of my product that I wanted to convey. Whereas Odd One Out was extremely serious, Story Of Grime was a fast paced, light hearted look at a niche subject and this is exactly the tone I want to have for my finished product. After conducting my research, this has made me realise I need to develop my research into audiences in order to make my subject- which is much more political than grime- appeal to the 16-24 demographic
